rating your horseback riding ability

This is a critically important first step in choosing a riding tour. For most of our multi-day riding trips you must have a good knowledge of the basics and some experience in riding cross-country. Some important factors to take into consideration are:

> How much riding can you realistically do to prepare for the ride?
> Will it be in the controlled conditions of an arena, or on trails with varied terrain?
> What is your level of physical strength and stamina?

The tour guide has full authority to exclude a rider from a trip for inability to ride or behavior which endangers the other riders or the horses. No refunds will be made under these circumstances.

If you wish to participate in a ride that requires experience beyond your current ability, please contact us to learn about lessons at the ranch. We can teach you the fundamentals of the classic Peruvian equitation. It may be possible to increase your comfort level and skill to a level that will allow you to participate in one of our rides.

Our riding style is Peruvian and based on the classic Spanish riding school principles. The classic Peruvian equitation is different to any other style (Western or English) and requires a very soft handling of the reins.

Traditional Peruvian saddles are used on the rides. These saddles feel like a comfortable cross between a dressage and Western saddle.

A weight limit of 200 pounds (90 kg) applies.

Beginner: A rider who has limited experience, is unable to apply basic aids and does not have a firm and balanced seat

Novice: A rider who is capable of mounting and dismounting unassisted, capable of applying basic aids, comfortable and in control at the walk.

Intermediate: A rider who has a firm and balanced seat, is confident and in control at all paces, but does not ride regularly.

Strong Intermediate: An intermediate rider who is currently riding regularly and is comfortable in the saddle for at least 6 hours per day.

Advanced: All of the above, plus an independent seat, soft hands, and capable of handling a spirited horse in open country.

Trip & Health Coverage Insurance

Guests are responsible for having an adequate, valid insurance policy including coverage for all the sporting activities that they are likely to participate in. Appropriate medical insurance is obligatory.

We strongly encourage all our clients to purchase trip cancellation insurance.

Responsibility of Ride Participants

Ride participants have a certain responsibility to Perol Chico and to the other members of the ride. Participants are responsible for understanding the requirements of the ride, and for selecting a ride appropriate to their ability. Participants with medical problems or special dietary needs are responsible for informing Perol Chico of these issues well in advance. For the protection of all participants, the ride leader reserves the right to prevent anyone from riding who displays insufficient ability, or whose behavior endangers the safety of other riders, themselves, or the horses. No refund will be made to a participant who is rejected for any such reason, or who is unwilling or unable to complete a tour.

Participants are responsible for arranging travel to and from the ride's meeting point, for carrying valid travel documents, and for obtaining immunizations appropriate to the destination. Participants are responsible for understanding what is and is not included in the price as outlined in the detailed ride itineraries.

Anyone who does not want pictures of themselves to be used in promotional materials should notify Perol Chico accordingly.

Limitations of Liability

While Perol Chico will make every attempt to operate a trip once confirmed, we do reserve the right to cancel a trip, at any time due to insufficient bookings and/or reasons beyond our control that might create unsafe or undesirable travel conditions for the participant. In such case, a full immediate refund will be issued. However, the financial liability of Perol Chico shall be limited to the amount paid to Perol Chico for the land tour only and shall not be extended to cover any other associated travel costs incurred (e.g. non refundable air tickets, clothing, equipment, miscellaneous transportation costs, medical expenses, travel insurance premiums, etc.)

Perol Chico is not responsible for airline accidents or delays, loss of luggage, or medical and customs regulations.

Trip itineraries are subject to change without notice due to road, weather, and other conditions, as deemed necessary by Perol Chico.

Exceeding your expectations is our number one priority. If we fail to meet your expectations and are unable to resolve the matter to your satisfaction during the trip, we'll refund up to the full amount you paid to Perol Chico.
